IRONY: January 6th Committee Members Are Refusing to Comply with Court Order to Appear and Produce Documents Related to Steve Bannon's Prosecution for Refusing to Comply with THEIR Subpoena.
Will Biden's Department of Justice Arrest and Prosecute Speaker Pelosi, Rep. Liz Cheney, Rep. Adam Kinzinger for Contempt of Court? Of Course Not...
Just days ahead of the January 6th Committee’s Prime Time Television Special: Insurrection at the Capitol, Speaker Pelosi, Rep. Liz Cheney, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and fifteen other House Democrats were served with subpoenas compelling them to testify in federal court and produce documents in support of Steve Bannon’s trial. Shockingly, the Democrats are refusing to comply with the court’s order citing legislative privilege provided by the constitution’s Speech and Debate Clause.1 Ironically, Steve Bannon is being prosecuted by Biden’s Department of Justice for his refusal to testify and produce documents to the January 6th Committee. Bannon cited executive privilege provided by the constitutions Separation of Powers.2
Bannon’s lawyers seek testimony and documents from January 6th Committee members to prove that the committee’s makeup violates House rules making its orders null and void. David Schoen, who represents Bannon, explained, "I believed from the start that it's a purely political motive going after Bannon. He said if the committee truly wanted Bannon's testimony, it would not have referred him for criminal contempt charges. They'll never get his testimony now. I have to draw the conclusion it's purely a political message. They're afraid of the message Bannon puts out there."3
The irony is that the House Democrats are right - they are immune from any order of the court to compel their appearance, testimony, or release of documents. Members of the House of Representatives are completely untouchable and no one in the world can force them to appear or testify. On the other hand, House Democrats believe that they have the absolute right to compel anyone they wish to appear before them, testify under oath, and give them any document they request. To that end, the January 6th Committee has compelled more than 1,000 Republicans to testify before their partisan witchhunt and anyone who has refused is facing prosecution including Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro.
It is time to end the January 6th Committee’s witchhunt - witchhunting is the Department of Justice’s exclusive purview…
Update: Of course, the Democrats just continue beating their drum that all Republicans are dangerous insurgents plotting sedition at every turn. For example, this evening the Atlantic’s Jennifer Senior published a story titled, “AMERICAN RASPUTIN: Steve Bannon is still scheming. And he’s still a threat to democracy.”4
